TAKE A STEP BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED PART 2.

What up so thanks to my longtime homie Fishbone from Lefrak City,Queens N.Y. he reminded me that I needed to do part 2.
Upon signing with Marley Marl to do a song on "In Control Vol 2" I recorded with him in Queensbridge not in his apartment but at one of his friends recording studios in the area.
I was still recording my demos out of my grandmothers house on Shepherd Ave. in East New York Brooklyn. I would always show Marley what I was doing to get criticism on my music and he would always tell me "Yo man these beats are hot who is doing them" to have him tell me that was like DAMN!! The best producer in hip hop likes my beats. Well as time went on I sort of felt like ok Marley always likes my beats but never says anything about my "rapping" so I figured ok well I will concentrate more on beats then raps.I from being around Marley got to work with him in the studio on a number of things so like I have told Marley countless times without a Marley Marl there would have never been Domingo so he knows I always give it up to him whenever I get interviewed. There was also another key player in my success in the music industry but we will get to him later on down the road. From Marley I went on to be managed by Francesca Spero via Rush Producers Management a company she had with Russell Simmons. I was honored to be managed on the same team as producers I looked up to such as Large Professor..Marley..Hank Shocklee..etc. R.P.M as it was called was a powerhouse way before Diddy's hitmen and many other production groups. Francesca taught me the ins and outs of the game so hey if I ever land an industry job I know all about the game from the corporate side thanks to her. To this day I am happy to say I maintain a great and respectful relationship with both Marley and Francesca. I can honestly say that the experience from all that made me who I am today as far as persona. You will not find me at many industry functions or boasting and bragging about what I did in the game (even though my close homies tell me thats my flaw).I was brought into this game for the love of music and that's what I try my best to maintain. I mean these day and ages we all have families to maintain so if the money comes with it then I am greatful. I hope you can learn and enjoy from my site I definitely am gonna take you through my journey in the Rap game from day 1 until the present. You might like somethings I say you might not but hey thats what this is here for......Peace........DOMINGO
This year might bring another album from me...we shall see...fi you think its a good idea or bad leave me a comment..I wanna know what your thinking.

TAKE A STEP BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED

It was August 1988 and I always listened to Marley Marl on Wbls radio station in NYC. He had the in control radio show on Friday and Saturday nights. He announced he was looking for new talent to be on his In control volume 2 album. I was hanging with my homie Jr. who I grew up with on my block. We was doing the usual shit hanging on the block music blasting talking shit. He told me when he heard that "yo man Domingo thats your break right there we should go and meet him". I was real reluctant to do it bc I was "rapping" at the time as a fun thing and really liked Djing and making my own beats with a 4 track recorder my grandmother bought me. Under the influence of my homie Jr and the shared bottle of Old english beer...yup the good ole 40 oz. He convinced me for us to grab his dads car and drive up to the radio station. When we got there of course there was a few people waiting outside the station to do what I exactly was trying to do. I admit I got discouraged at this point bc here I am a trying to "Rap" with my demo tape and I thought these kids here must be better then me. It was after midnight the show was over and I see marley come out of the elevator in the building and alongside him was LL Cool J. I was a huge LL fan back then and was trippin to see him in person but I wasnt the type to just go up to a person. I have and always been very lowkey when it comes to meeting people. So as Marley and LL stepped outside they got mobbed just as I expected by the other kids that was there. They all wa handing marley their demos in hopes of being that next star Marley would produce. My homie Jr was looking at me telling me "yo man nows ya chance" but, I didnt not want to approache Marley at that moment. I waited until he finished talking with LL and all the other kids that was there. As Marley said peace to everyone that was there and proceeded to walk away as he past me I tapped him on his arm and told him "Hey whats up my name is Domingo and I wanted to give you my demo tape". Marley said "is it hot?" I told him I think so and he told me he would give it a listen. Two days went by and I got a phone call from a lady named Francesca Spero who at the time was Marleys manager and she asked me to come to her office on Lafayette street in Manhattan. I went to the meeting and when she saw me she said"So your the Puerto rican kid Marley is ranting and raving about". I still did not know why I was called there but Marley called and told me he would be right there. When he got there he told me he loved my tape and wanted me on his next album. I was in total shock bc not only did I and I still do consider Marley the greatest hip hop producer ever he loves my demo. I admit I signed that contract on the spot I didnt know anything about lawyers or nothing and the fact that my idol was giving me a chance to rock with him was good for me no money was needed for that.

ANALOG...DIGITAL....THE REAL DEAL...SSL 4000

Many many people have asked me time after time "How do you get the damn Asr 10 to sound the way it sounds". It is a simple explanation. The Mpc 2000xl is a digital machine whereas the Asr 10 was made Analog. Now many young cats do not know what analog sounds like bc they are digi-babies. The difference between analog and digital to most people who have been around both it is easy to tell them apart. Analog gives music a warmer feel to it and good bottom and it didnt take much outboard gear in a recording studio to give it that feel. Digital gives music exactly that a crisp clear digital feel and music sounds sort of light in the ass. It requires alot more gear and plug ins ot achieve the analog feel on music. In this day and time there has been alot of plug ins that have come out to emulate analog. Some have failed while others have come within 99% accuracy. I have been around the king of recording consoles the SSL 4000 G series and the J 9000 as well was the Neve Flying faders boards. These boards were easy to find in any NYC recording studio in the 90s. With the day of computers having taken completely over techs scrambled to find and achieve that analog sound that to me in my opinion outweighs digital. I stand behind the WAVES SSL 4000 PLUG INS...100%. Of all the plug ins I have tried I will say these mufukas are the truth. I have mixed every single record I have ever done in a studio on a SSL board and when I used these plug ins I was blown away by the accuracy of them...So I have answered your question as to how I get my music sounding the way it does.
